Brenda Barthell earned a fine arts degree at Northwestern University and a master's degree in art therapy at The George Washington University where she served on the faculty for 15 years. She has also studied at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and the Art League of Alexandria. As a member of the Art League, the Potomac Valley Watercolorists, and the Virginia Watercolor Society (signature member), her work has received numerous awards, the most recent being an Award of Distinction at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. She has exhibited in juried solo and group shows since 1985, as well as in corporate venues. She has also served as a judge for
